Dental sedation, also known as "sleep dentistry," is an effective and safe procedure designed to provide a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for patients undergoing dental treatment. It involves the use of sedative drugs to help patients relax during dental procedures. At Arches Ferry Dental, we offer two types of dental sedation: nitrous oxide (commonly known as laughing gas) and IV/general anesthesia. These options allow Dr. Miles Bell to perform complex dental procedures often with fewer appointments and less overall discomfort for the patient.
Why Should I Get Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation is an excellent solution for those who experience anxiety or fear when visiting the dentist. It helps to create a more comfortable and stress-free dental experience. Dental sedation can also be beneficial for patients who have a low pain threshold, can't sit still in the dentist's chair, have sensitive teeth, or need a large amount of dental work completed. It enables Dr. Bell to work more efficiently without causing discomfort or distress to the patient, ensuring a positive dental experience.

The Benefits Of Dental Sedation
Comfort and Relaxation
Dental sedation creates a calming environment for patients, helping to eliminate fear and anxiety associated with dental procedures. It allows patients to remain comfortable and relaxed throughout their visit, transforming what could be a stressful experience into a peaceful one.
Efficiency
Dental sedation enables Dr. Bell to perform more extensive procedures in fewer appointments. Patients who might usually require multiple visits due to discomfort or anxiety can often have all their work completed in one comfortable visit. This saves time and allows for a more efficient dental treatment process.
Pain Management
One of the primary benefits of dental sedation is efficient pain management. Sedation dentistry can alleviate pain and discomfort during procedures, making the experience more tolerable for patients with low pain thresholds or sensitive teeth.
The Dental Sedation Treatment Process
Pre-Sedation Consultation
During the initial consultation, Dr. Bell will discuss your medical history, dental needs, and any anxieties you may have about dental treatment. This information will help him determine the most appropriate type of sedation for your specific needs.
Administration of Sedative
On the day of your procedure, the chosen sedative will be administered. If nitrous oxide is used, you will breathe it in through a mask placed over your nose. For IV/general anesthesia, the sedative will be delivered through a vein in your arm.
Monitoring and Dental Procedure
After the sedative has taken effect, your Alpharetta dentist will perform the dental procedure while your vital signs are continuously monitored. The level of sedation can be adjusted as needed to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
